Challenges:
✓ The fire station is located airside inside the airfield of Port Hedland Airport which is a security controlled aerodrome meaning that all works need to be supervised by a person who is security cleared, access for all is via visitor passes issued by the Port Hedland airport office.
✓ All access requires an escort from a secured gate to and from the fire station each day for all vehicles.
✓ The fire station remained active at all times and in the event of an emergency an action plan was developed to ensure the fire team were not impacted and the security provisions for the airport were not breached. Our team needed to liaise with the station commander each day to ensure the works did not interfere with the operation of the station.
✓ All materials and goods were transported from Perth with local trades engaged to do the work with an MSS supervisor on site.
